Sublimation printing allows for versatile applications, but there are many aspects that need to be considered to achieve a successful result.
One common sublimation issue is ghosting. According to Coastal Business Supplies, ‘Ghosting occurs when the sublimation transfer paper shifts during the sublimation process, such as when you open or close your heat press. For this reason, it is recommended that you tape down your hard substrates to the sublimation paper using thermal tape. For fabrics, we recommend an adhesive spray to prevent the paper from moving.’
JG Electronics has also outlined a few tips and tricks when it comes to sublimation: ‘Sublimation is preferable to a laser printer. Stay 1cm from a mug’s handle, top or bottom when sublimating. Glass items need to be pre-heated, and temperature and time need to be accurate.’
Platinum FESPA Africa and Sign Africa Expo sponsor Stixo Signage added that, ‘The quality of the product is paramount and you need to ensure constant product availability to fulfil customer demand.’
